A financial miracle is when God provides miraculously for our needs financially. Just like any other kind of miracle, this miracle happens to those who are in dire need and in desperate need of divine intervention. Rarely do Christians associate the word miracle with finances?
When you hear miracle, the most probable thing that comes to your mind is someone healed of cancer or some other disease. But the same God that does healing miracles can also perform financial miracles. Remember the words of Christ in Mathew 7:7
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.
But how can you pray for a financial miracle? Here are 7 ways.
Pray for wisdom
Wisdom, as Solomon aptly put it is the principle thing. Often times, all we need to deal with the financial quagmire is to get divine providence. Apostle James reminds us that if we ever lack wisdom, we shouldn’t hesitate to ask God for it.
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. James 1:5
The first thing most people do when they realize they are in a financial mess is to start reading and researching widely on money. While this is a very necessary step in the process, it is important not to confuse information with wisdom.
Even after gathering the facts from books, blogs, videos and other secondary sources, you will still need the wisdom of God in order to know how to apply the information gained. King Solomon is the best illustration of this – he prayed for wisdom and the results were astounding – not only did God make him wise but he also became the wealthiest king in the history of Israel.
Pray with specificity for Financial Miracle
When praying for a financial miracle, it is important to make sure you make specific prayers. Whatever it is you need, mention it to the Lord in prayer. If it helps, make a list of the things you need help with. For instance, you can list all your debts and then ask the Lord for wisdom on dealing with the debts.
James L. Paris, financial coach and author of How To Pray For A Financial Miracle: Enlisting God’s Help In Solving Everyday Financial Problems states that it is important to write down your financial needs because it helps you to be specific about them in prayer. It also helps you to review as the Lord continues to answer your prayers. When you are not specific in your prayers, you are like the proverbial Christian who prays amiss.
Pray for increase
When God put the man in Eden, He blessed them and commanded them to multiply and fill the earth. That is because He believes in an increase. It is okay to believe in God for an increase. Most Christians think it is greedy to ask for more money but it is actually very okay. If you are a parent, you know you don’t think your kids are greedy just because they are asking you for more stuff.
In fact, it hurts your heart if they ask you for something you can’t afford. You joy as a parent is in meeting the needs of your kids. Our heavenly father loves providing for his children too – so do not shy away from asking for an increase.
There are lots of examples of how God increased people’s resources in the Bible. The most prolific example is the widow in 2 Kings 4. Her husband had died and left her in debt and she didn’t know what to do so she ran to God for help. The prophet gave her a divine instruction – to go borrow as many jars as she could and when she had done that, God supernaturally increased her little flask of oil and she filled up all the borrowed vessels. The prophet then instructed her to sell off all of the oil, pay her debts and then live from the remainder. God has no problem increasing your money – just ask!
Pray for supernatural provision
God is well able to handle anything that comes our way – which is why sometimes all you need to pray for is for supernatural provision. When Paul was writing to the church at Philippi, he said something interesting;
But my God shall supply all your need, according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Phil. 4:19
Sometimes, God can provide supernaturally without any effort from our side. For instance, when the five thousand men that had been following Jesus for three days got hungry, he just multiplied the bread of a small kid in order to feed the crowd. Another good example is how God provided manna and quails for the Israelites as they wandered in the wilderness.
Pray for profit
If your business is not doing too well, it is time to take to the Lord in prayer and ask him for help. God will not only help you break even faster but He will also help you know exactly what you need to do in order to become profitable again.
Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, “I am the LORD your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go. Isaiah 48:17
Before you ask God for profit, you must, first of all, have an open mind because God might lead you to do something that is completely the opposite of what you were taught in business school. For instance, a business owner in Philadelphia was not doing too good in her restaurant and decided to ask God to teach her what to do.
God told her to stop pricing her food items and instead ask the customers to pay whatever they wanted. This was a risky way of doing business but she obeyed God anyway. This completely turned her business around and her restaurant became the talk of the town.
Pray for a miracle
As obvious as this may sound, most Christians either forget or just neglect the fact that asking God for a miracle will get you just that – a miracle. God will never interfere with whatever you have going as long as you give him the impression that you have everything under control. God only goes to places where he is welcomed.
Whenever you are faced with some sort of financial difficulty, go ahead and ask God for help. Take time to pray for a financial miracle. As Apostle James observed, we often continue to be in trouble just because we didn’t pray for a miracle.
You do not have because you do not ask. James 4:3
Thank God by faith
When Jesus was standing outside the tomb of Lazarus (John 11) he started by thanking God because He always heard him whenever he prayed. Whenever you are in financial turmoil, it is very easy to despair and focuses on the things that aren’t working.
Instead of going that route, count your blessing and remain grateful for the many other blessings you are enjoying. Additionally, thank God in advance for the financial miracle you are believing God for. Remember, faith doesn’t need to see it before it believes it.
As Hebrews reminds us, it is impossible to please God without faith and when you come out with a heart of gratitude and thanksgiving for the anticipated miracle, Heaven will respond to the faith by releasing the miracle.
Money is arguably the most controversial subjects in the body of Christ. On one extreme, there are those that subscribe to the “prosperity theology” which is mostly about amassing as much wealth as possible. On the other extreme, there is the “poverty theology” which teaches against desiring or pursuing money because it is the root of all evil.
This dichotomy has left many Christians confused as to what direction to take on money matters – especially when in financial turmoil. But it is totally okay to believe God for a financial miracle – the way you would pray for any other miracle.
