How can I experience the Holy Spirit Presence in my life? This is the million dollar question that has been asked by many believers.
A number of years ago, evangelist Leighton Ford noted that most of the programmes we have in the church would still continue even after the Holy Spirit leaves us.
The sad reality is most Christians wouldn’t even realize that the Holy Spirit is no longer with them. See, the Holy Spirit is not only a person but a “gentleman” too.
He never forces himself on anyone. So whenever he feels unwanted in the life of an individual, he leaves. This is why Paul admonishes us not to grieve him.
The question then is, how can you tell that he is still with you? The following are 8 Ways You Experience the Holy Spirit Presence.

In his book titled “Good Morning Holy Spirit,” Pastor Benny Hinn points out the importance of having constant fellowship with the Holy Spirit. Most Christians the world over use the famous benediction adapted from 2 Corinthians 13:14: “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.”
But very few internalize the meaning of the prayer – grace comes through Jesus, God is love and we fellowship with the Godhead through the Holy Spirit. When the Holy Spirit is present, you get to enjoy fellowship with God.
He quickens you
John 6:63, Jesus said that it is the spirit who quickens us. Apostle Paul sheds more light on this by explaining that it is the spirit who gives us spiritual life for he is a spirit of life (Romans 8:3).
However good we may look on the surface, the truth is we are spiritually dead. But when the Holy Spirit is present, he infuses us with the power of the spiritual life. Just as man became a living soul when God breathed into his nostrils, the Holy Spirit continues to make us alive in him.
Holy Spirit Presence will lead and guide you
Isaiah 30:21 reveals how the Holy Spirit orders our steps. It is easy to rely on the holy spirit when undertaking a sacred assignment. However, the Holy Spirit Presence will lead us even to perform our mundane tasks.
The holy spirit reveals himself by helping you get back on track when you miss a step. He also helps you not to miss any important step. If you find yourself making wrong decision after another, you may want to evaluate your standing with the Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit Presence Convicts you of Sin
One of Gaither’s band’s classic is a song titled, “we catch em, he cleans em.” As Christians, we have been called to be witnesses to our non-believing friends. But even as we do the work of evangelism, we cannot convict anyone of sin – this is where the Holy Spirit Presence comes in. It is, therefore, accurate to infer that conviction of sin is a clear indicator of the presence of the Holy Ghost.
He leads to salvation
Once the spirit of God has convicted someone of sin, he goes ahead and leads him to salvation. A preacher might have prayed for you to confess your sins and receive Christ as Lord and savior but it is the Holy Spirit Presence who will lead you there.
Even after receiving Christ, you still need him to continue leading you in paths of righteousness. This is what the prophet Ezekiel meant when he said that there was coming a time when he would write the laws on the tablets of their hearts.
He makes you holy
Holiness is another proof of the presence of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit gets grieved easily by sin and that is why he helps you to be holy. In Romans 7, Paul describes a predicament he was in – he kept doing what was wrong.
He, later on, explains that the flesh and the spirit are always at war. Thankfully the Holy Spirit comes as our sanctifier and makes us Holy vessels fit for each noble use.
The works of God
When the Holy Spirit is present, you will notice the works that God promises in his word taking place. These include healing, sacrificial giving, etc.
Given an opportunity to chose, most people would easily choose to live with Jesus as opposed to the Holy Spirit Presence. But this reveals ignorance in our understanding of God, and he manifests in three different ways:
- God the Father,
- God the son, and
- The Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit was sent so that the works that Jesus had begun to do may continue until when returns for us.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit
Where the Holy Spirit Presence is, you may notice one or more of the gifts of the Holy Spirit in action. We call them the gifts of the spirit because he is the one that gives them to us. There are 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit namely,
- Word of wisdom
- Word of knowledge
- Gifts of healing
- Gift of a faith
- Discernment of spirit
- Speaking in tongues
- Interpretation of tongues
Granted, it is the prerogative of the Holy Spirit to do as he wills. So you shouldn’t expect to see all the above pieces of evidence for you to tell whether or not the Holy Spirit is present.
The Holy Ghost reveals himself differently to everyone in order to be as relevant as possible. This means that you do not necessarily need to see all the above for you to conclude the Holy Spirit is present.
