How do you gain victory over fear? We all experience fear. Our world is full of it. The media is overwhelmed by it. Unfortunately, our souls are often saturated with it. Fear is the opposite of faith and it is not from God.
“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” 2 Timothy 1:7
The Bible keeps telling us not to give in to fear. God said to his children, “Do not be afraid, for I am with you (Isaiah 43: 5).” However, we are often still confused and want to know how to experience victory over fear.
I have discovered 13 proven ways to gain victory over fear. I offer them to you as you begin your journey to living a life without fear.
Put on the full armor of God
As a believer, you have authority over the unseen realm by putting on the spiritual armor that God has provided.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. (Ephesians 6:12-13).
The armor of God is a spiritual reality you need to have victory. Exercise your victory over fear with this spiritual understanding.
Know where you belong
The Bible mentions two human families, one is the family of God and the other family belongs to the devil. Those in God’s family live by his description. Those belonging to Satan act like their spiritual father. As a believer, you need an understanding of where you belong.
The Bible says.
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith. (1 John 5: 4).

Stand firmly on God’s Promises
You need to rest on God’s promises. God has made very great and precious promises to us in the Bible. Each promise reminds us that we can put our lives in His hands.
No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it. (1 Corinthians 10:13).
You can trust God’s promises, for He cannot lie! Fear disappears when it is exposed to the promises of God’s Word.
Gain victory over Fear with Faith
Fear is not bigger than the truth. Fear is not bigger than God.

But, nothing replaces the scripture. Again, you need to find out what The Word of God says so you can gain control over fear when it comes.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.” Ephesians 6:16
Win the battle in your mind
When fear comes with a thought, each thought brings more and more fear into our lives.
You need to take control of your thoughts because the fight is in the mind. You need to renew your thoughts and discard any thoughts that are inconsistent with God’s Word.
Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5
You can win the battle of your mind by rejecting the things that don’t come from God and meditating on His word. If it kills, steals, or destroys it doesn’t come from God.

Gain victory over fear with the word of God
What does The Word say about fear?
Ephesians 6:17 “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”
No one goes to war without a weapon. To be victorious, you must use your weapon.
The Word of God is your weapon. Find bible verses about victory over fear, study them, meditate on them, and confess them every day.
Words of your mouth.
You can use the words of your mouth to gain victory.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit.” Proverbs 18:2
Speak life over your life and reaffirm God’s promise in your life every day.
When the devil comes to deceive you with terrible thoughts, answer him like Jesus … it is written!
“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony” Revelation 12:11
Knowing your bearings.
You need to be able to fully assess the current situation before you know how to respond appropriately.
Past challenges and trauma can affect your current experience. Make sure they are facts, not just past stories and emotions that are affecting your current reaction.
If you notice an increase in anxiety, ask God to clarify the situation in front of you. Focus on what is happening. Don’t give in to what may (or may not) happen in the future.
“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing?” Mathew 6:25
“Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?” —Luke 12:25
Fear is usually the belief that things will get worse. In most cases, fear comes in one of two forms: fear of not getting what you want or fear of losing what you already have.
By praising God, you have effectively shifted your thoughts from fear to another path.
Brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things… put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you (Philippians 4:8-9).
The bible admonished us to turn our thoughts away from fear to enjoy His peace.
Imagine your success.
With our imagination alone, we have an amazing ability to influence our results. Many people have a habit of imagining the worst. That way you are preparing yourself for failure and giving in to fear.
“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ.” 2 Corinthians 10:5
Imagine your Success. Visualize success in your mental look. Write it in a simple story format with you as the main character.
Be honest about your fear
Don’t try to deny your fears, turn them over to Christ. Don’t suppress them—and don’t cleave to them. Confess them to Christ, and then ask Him to lift them from your shoulders.
The psalmist wrote, “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall” (Psalm 55:22). Peter also emphasized this truth: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).
When you are going through trials, express your worries and sorrows before God. He understands that suffering will cause confusion and pain. He went through the worst of those experiences for you.
Be Strong and Courageous
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”
God has promised to neither leave nor forsake you in His word. When you understand this divine promise, your victory over fear will be established.
Furthermore, spend time in God’s word daily. Constantly being in the Word and reading stories such as the one in Deuteronomy 31 above will keep God’s truth at the forefront of your minds. That way, when fear comes, you are ready to combat it with the Word of God.
If you are feeling weary from the battle you are in, lift your eyes to Jesus who is the source of all strength.
Pray Without Ceasing
Pray without ceasing and in faith. Fear is like a baby tiger: The more you feed it, the stronger it grows.
The scripture in Philippians 4:6-7, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
What should you pray about? Pray for God’s strength in the midst of your fear.
“Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; nor His ear heavy, that it cannot hear.” Isaiah 59:1
Talking to God on a constant basis can help you gain victory over fear.
