Focus: More Than Routine.

It is possible to attend worship, sing familiar songs, hear Scripture, and still miss a personal encounter with God.

“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” — James 4:8 (KJV)

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for awakening me to this Sunday morning and giving me another opportunity to worship you.

I come before you asking for more than another familiar religious experience; I desire a fresh awareness of your presence that renews my faith and transforms my heart.

Remove the distractions that have crowded my thoughts and anything that has weakened my spiritual hunger. As I worship, help me listen carefully to your Word.

Receive correction without resistance, encouragement without doubt, and direction with a willingness to obey. Revive my prayer life, deepen my love for Scripture.

Restore the joy of my salvation, and make me increasingly sensitive to your voice. Bless my family, strengthen our faith, and let your presence become the foundation upon which we build our lives.

Lord, do not let me leave your presence exactly as I entered it. Renew me, challenge me, strengthen me, and draw me closer to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

This afternoon I bring before you my family, friendships, church relationships, and every person you have placed within my life.

Thank you for the people who encourage, support, pray for, and walk alongside me, and give me grace to appreciate them rather than take their presence for granted.

Where relationships have become strained, bring healing; where communication has broken down, create understanding; where offenses have been carried too long, give us grace to forgive.

Show me where my own attitude, words, or actions need to change, and give me humility to make things right when I have contributed to a problem.

Protect our homes from unnecessary division and teach us to speak with kindness, listen with patience, and love one another with the grace you have shown us.

Father, let peace begin with me wherever possible, and give me wisdom concerning situations where healthy boundaries are necessary. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
