15 Great Prayers for Adult Children

15 Great Prayers for Adult Children

Our love for our kids as parents never dies, regardless of the child’s age. Even in adulthood, we still want to cater to their physical and spiritual needs.

Nevertheless, not all of us have the means to cater to the needs of our adult kids, but one thing we can all do is remember them in our prayers.

Just as we all depend on God for our daily needs and heart desires, our children need the prayers; our children need our prayers to sustain them now more than ever.

The book of Genesis records how the prayer of Jacob affected Reuben, though negatively. However, we can take a cue from it and declare what we want over the lives of our adult children.

In this article, I have provided prayers for children for you to engage God with for your adult children.

Below are 15 powerful Prayers for Adult Children.

1 . Prayer of Gratitude.

Psalms 127:3- Lo, children are the heritage of God, and the fruit of the womb is your reward.

Awesome God, I give thanks to You for the blessing of a child. He has been a source of joy and pride since childhood until now, far beyond any parental expectations I had. Thank You for giving me a child who has respected and obeyed me.

My life has been fulfilled because I have You, dear Lord, and my beautiful kid. Please help him stay on the path I taught him now that he is an adult. Keep him near to You, and protect him for the rest of his life.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

2. Sufficiency of God’s Grace Prayer

1 Corinthians 15:10 – But by the grace of God I am what I am, and his grace toward me was not in vain.

Dear Gracious God, I ask for your sufficient grace in the lives of my adult children. You know the struggles and difficulties that they are currently facing.

That’s why I ask that your grace will continually be sufficient for them through every challenge. I pray that your power will be made perfect in their weaknesses.

Dear Jesus, let your power rest upon them daily. Work within them to live as those completely sold out to you. Thank you, dear Lord, for allowing your love to rule in their hearts.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Omnipotent God, thank You for blessing me with a good child who is now mature. I treasure him as a divine gift from You.

I pray that You bless my child and grant him Your divine protection as he finds his way in this wicked world. Guide him so that he walks on the path of righteousness daily.

Mighty God, I pray that when life’s storms hit, whisper to my preteens and teenagers that you are their protection and stability.

Remind them that they can rest easy knowing that they are part of a family that will always be a secure haven for them.

Dear Jesus, when adversity arises, take residence in their hearts. If their brains and hearts are racing with worry, calm them down by calling them to wherever you know they’ll find you.

5. A Mother’s Prayer of Joy.

Deuteronomy 6:6 – And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.

Dear Loving God, thank You for giving me the gift of this precious child so many years ago.

The Bible reminds us that when a woman is giving birth, she has many sorrows because her hour hasn’t come, but she no longer remembers the pain she experienced as soon as she delivers her child.

Likewise, Father, I pray for my child, ready to have her own family and children; please bless her home with health, happiness, and prosperity. Help her teach her children how to cling to you and love you.

Thank you for hearing and granting my request.

My God and Father, I thank You for being there for my child, who is just beginning the journey into adulthood.

Thank you for your guidance in my youthful days as I made sure she walked in the way that pleases you. I pray that she will continue to live a life that reflects Your image.

Let the morals that I have taught her guide her. Help her to grow closer to You constantly. I also request that you keep Your hand upon her.

Help her to put on the whole armor of God so that she can stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

7. Prayer for a Godly Spouse.

Holy God, thank you for creating us for a relationship with you.

That’s why You created marriage to symbolize your love for us; and your unwavering and consistent affection. Thank you so much for the gift of marriage.

Father, it’s no secret that a Christian marriage founded on Christ’s love is sure to bear fruit. That’s the reason I pray for my children.

I pray you’ll direct them to your perfect will for them. Give them spouses that are suitable for them in every sense.

Lead them to spouses who will make them laugh, who will make life exciting, and who will help them feel your love and light in everything they do. Assist my children in making the right choices.

10. Prayers to Correct Misguided Choices.

Proverbs 21:1-The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whichever he will.

Abba Father, thank you because you are my king. You have so much grace to give to every one of us. Lord, my children desperately need that grace right now.

They are making decisions that I don’t comprehend, and I’m very concerned about this. My heart hurts for what could happen to them if they continue down this path.

It’s tempting to ask you to take away their autonomy on some days. But I know that we can only choose you;  love you, and be in a meaningful connection with you if we have free will.

Dear God, I humbly request that my children have the opportunity to completely experience this relationship with you one day, despite their current acts. Thank you for allowing them to pursue their dreams.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

11. Prayer for good parenting.

Colossians 6:4 – But bring them up in fear and discipline of the Lord.

Heavenly Father, You alone know how many times I’ve failed as a parent. You heard how many times I lost my cool and yelled. Lord Jesus, you saw how I withdrew my affection due to stress and anxiety many times.

You were there for me through every blunder I made with my kids as they grew older. I ask that you forgive my errors.

Right now, I’m afraid there’s been too much between my children and me. But I know that nothing is impossible with you.

Abba Father, please assist me in being forthright in my apologies to my children. Assist them, too, in softening their hearts so that they can communicate whatever apologies they may have in return.

Above all, please assist us in gradually forming a new and better relationship henceforth.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

12. Prayer for the Will of God to be Established.

Jeremiah 1:5 – Before I formed you, I knew you.

Everlasting Father, thank you, beautiful Creator, for how wonderfully you made my children. In my womb, you wove them together.

I thank You for creating them fearfully and wonderfully. You gave me kids who constantly strive to do better for the family and me.

Please help them remain steadfast and dedicated to you in their faith throughout their lives.

Lord, make them uncompromising in their commitments to biblical truth and your purpose for their lives.

Thank you because you will make them beacons of light in a dark world.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

13. Prayer for Victory Against Temptation.

2 Corinthians 12:9- He said my grace is sufficient for you.

Dear God, I ask that you show yourself powerfully in my child’s life. I pray that Your mercy will be adequate for her in her challenges. Lord, You promised never to let any temptation that is greater than us come to us.

Therefore, I ask that you keep my dear child from severe temptations that will likely overwhelm her.

Increase her faith daily, and help her stay rooted in you even as she keeps growing in your wisdom.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

14. Prayer for the Infilling of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 4:1 – Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led around by the Spirit in the wilderness.

Precious Holy Spirit, I ask that you please have Your way in the life of my adult child. Your word tells me that our bodies are your temple.

Therefore, I request that you fill my child with your fullness. Father, remember that my child was bought at a high price. So, I pray that you will glorify yourself in her life now and always.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

15. Prayer to Stand Firm in the Faith.

Ephesians 6:11 – Put on the whole armor of God so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

Dear Lord Jesus Christ, society has fed kids with too many lies about acceptable and how they should live. But father, I know that The word that I’ve taught my children will continue to resonate loudly in their hearts and minds.

Holy Spirit drowns out the noise of every perverse doctrine that they have heard from this crooked generation. Please help them stand firmly rooted in you until Christ returns to take us home.

In the name of Jesus Christ, I pray, Amen.

In conclusion.

We are to devote ourselves to praying for our children even when financially and maritally stable. We should not give any opportunity to the devil, as Ephesians 4:26 tells us.

The Scripture also admonishes us in 1 Peter 3:10 to beware – Behold the devil is going around like a roaring lion, seeking whom to devour. I earnestly pray that none of our adult children will be consumed by the wicked one. Amen.

Hence, I encourage you to pray these guided prayers for adult children with faith; and be rest assured that the Good Lord will hear you and grant your request.
