God has given us the ministry of restoring relationships. It’s God’s will that we remain in relationships he ordained for us.
According to Steve Arterburn, fixing a relationship is a long process and can take years. One needs to prepare for the reconciliation because it takes time and effort.
God heals the broken-hearted and prayer is the best place to heal a broken relationship.
Below are 13 powerful prayers to heal a relationship.
1. Prayer for a Broken Heart.
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Lord, I praise you because you are my healer. You have sent your word and healed me of all my ailments.
I am suffering from a broken heart and I come to you for healing. My heart is broken because my relationship with my friend is over.
I had invested myself into this relationship and I thought it would last for life. But the betrayal of my friend as hurt me and left me brokenhearted.
I can’t get over the pain and I cry every day. Save me from the pain that crushes my spirit each day and fills my heart with joy. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
2. Prayer for a sad Heart.
Job 9:27 “If I say, ‘I will forget my complaint, I will put off my sad face and wear a smile.’
Lord, help me let go of the pain I feel and not hold anything against the person who hurt me. Grant me the grace to put off my sad face and wear a smile knowing you will heal my heart.
This is not the end of the world and there are better days ahead. Help me not to focus on the hurtful behavior of my friend but to forgive and wish them well.
I will not meditate on the wrongs done to me but will leave this person in your hands. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
3. Prayer against Hatred.
Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirs up strife, But love covers all sins.”
Lord, thank you for giving me your word to guide me each day and in every situation. Keep us from strife in this broken relationship and help us love each other. You have shown us we can love each other with your love. It never fails.
May the love we once shared in this relationship keep us from judging each other and keeping a record of wrongs. Protect my friend and I from feelings of hatred toward each other.

4. Prayer against the hurt of Betrayal.
Psalm 41:9 “Even my own familiar friend in whom I trusted, Who ate my bread, Has lifted up his heel against me.”
Lord, I feel betrayed by my friend who stabbed me in the back and was not honest with me.
I trusted my friend, and he/she betrayed my trust in the worst way. We shared great moments together while all the time he/she was doing hurtful things behind my back.
Heal the hurt I feel because it is a burden to my heart. Restore the joy I once felt and help my friend and I work through the issues that tore us apart.

5. Prayer to Speak kind Words.
Ephesians 4:29 “Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.”
Lord, I have nothing good to say about my friend because of the hurt I am experiencing. I am tempted to say bad things about them and expose them.
Forgive me because I know this is not your will. Help me speak gracious words to my friend and keep me from saying bad things about him/her to others.
May my words be healing to my friend and build them up. I will not return evil with evil but will obey your word to fight evil with good.

6. Prayer to listen and not Retaliate.
James 1:19 “So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.”
Lord, I praise you because you help me when I am in need and struggle to obey your will. You are an ever-present help in times of trouble.
I have not been willing to hear my friend’s side of the story and have meted out my wrath on them. Forgive me and grant me a willing heart to listen to what my friend has to say.
Help me listen to my friend and not be quick to attack them with my words. Grant me the restraint not to retaliate for what he/she did to me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
7. Prayer to Trust in God.
Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Lord, thank you for always showing me a way out of the things that trouble me. You promised you will deliver me from all my troubles and you have never failed me.
I don’t understand why this relationship broke but I know you know the whole story. We disagreed with my friend but the genesis of the problem proves to be a mystery.
Help me trust in you and not to depend on what my eyes can see. There is more to the situation and I don’t know everything. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
8. Prayer not to Blame the other Person.
Matthew 7:5 “Hypocrite! First, remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye.”
Lord, thank you for the relationship my friend and I shared. It was a blessing to me although it broke my heart. I know that we were both in the wrong and I can’t blame my friend for the break-up.
We both had a part to play in the break up of this relationship and help each of us to take stock of our mistakes. Help me see where I played a part in the failure of this relationship.
I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes. My focus will no longer be on my friend’s mistakes but mine. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
9. Prayer to bear with each Other.
Ephesians 4:1-3 “I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.”
Lord, thank you for your word which gives me direction when I don’t know what to do. You always have a solution to the issues I face in my relationships.

Lord, thank you for showing me a better way to live by giving me your word to guide me. You also sent Christ to earth to show us how to live according to your will. He is gentle at heart and your will is that I will be like him too.
Despite my broken heart because of the failure of this relationship, I will refrain from speaking harsh words to my friend but will instead use soft and soothing words.
Heal me from the bitterness that makes me speak in a harsh manner to my friend. Give me pleasant words to say to my friend despite our broken relationship.

Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit.”
Lord, you are my healer and you promised that healing is my portion. You want to see me well so I can live a full life. I feel a lot of comfort knowing you are near me during this trying time when I am suffering from heartbreak.
Heal me from the turmoil in my heart and mind. Restore me to emotional health and renew my mind to see everything from your perspective.

13. Prayer to Unburden your Heart.
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Lord, thank you for inviting me to come to you with my heavy loads and you will give me rest. I come to you today because my heart is burdened by the pain of the broken relationship between my friend and me.
I trade the sorrow I feel in my heart for your healing and rest. Give my heart rest as I wait on you to restore our broken relationship. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

When we pray over our broken relationships, God heals our hearts and helps us forgive others who have hurt us. When we heal, we pave the way for the restoration of the relationship.
Your broken relationship is not beyond the power of God to heal. Trust that when you pray for your relationship, God hears and answers with his salvation.
