Carrying a worry you cannot put into words? Name one need before God, then use the prayer below to ask for help with your next step.
ABC prayer guide · Part 2 of 3
A lesson from my time in Antigua
When I was pastoring in Antigua, there were weeks when I did not have money to buy food. I learned to trust God during that season.
That experience is why I encourage you to bring everyday needs into prayer. Food, bills, family concerns, and uncertainty are things you can speak to God about honestly.
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”
1 Peter 5:7, KJV
Name the need without hiding the feeling
Start with what is actually happening: a bill is due, someone you love is struggling, or a decision needs to be made. Then tell God how it is affecting you.
You might pray, “Lord, I need help with this bill, and I am frightened.” Being specific can help you recognize what to pray about and where practical help may be needed.
Pray this now
Lord, I bring You the need that has been weighing on me. You know the details, including the parts I find difficult to talk about.
Provide what is needed and guide me toward wise decisions. Help me receive support with humility, care for the people affected, and take the next responsible step.
Keep worry from consuming this whole day. Teach me to trust You while I wait and while I act. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Include someone else in your prayer
Think of one person carrying a burden. Use our guide to praying for others to turn your concern into a specific prayer.
If the answer is taking longer than you hoped, read how to keep praying through hard seasons. Waiting does not mean you have failed at prayer.
