13 Prayers for Victims of Emotional Abuse

Emotional abuse is simply a way some persons control others by using emotions to criticize, embarrass, blame, or manipulate them.

In relationships, emotional abuse is when there is a consistent use of abusive words and bullying behaviors that wear down the self-esteem of the victim, as well as undermine the person’s mental health.

However, in the midst of the distressing circumstances surrounding the victims of emotional abuse, God is always there to provide the courage to speak out and seek help.

He is ever available to provide healing and comfort to as many as are abused emotionally especially, those who will seek His face prayerfully in their distress.

13 Prayers for Victims of Emotional Abuse.

  1. Prayer of Courage for Victims of Emotional Abuse.

Deuteronomy 31:6: Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

Dear Loving God, You are our deliverer and sustainer, we pray for those suffering any kind of emotional abuse and neglect.

We ask that You please be with them in this trying period that is filled with confusion and pain. Lord, many of them are afraid to speak up or seek help, help them to find the courage to break free.

Some have become weak and powerless, strengthening them in every way possible.

Others feel empty because of what they have been through, fill every emptiness with the fullness of Your Spirit.

Many more are severely wounded emotionally, heal their wounds, set them free from fear, and restore them to wholeness.

Release Your grace to enable them to face the future with complete faith in You dear Lord, in Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer For Deep Emotional Healing

1 Corinthians 10:13b:… God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

Gracious Father, You know everyone who is suffering from the pain of emotional abuse even better than they know themselves. They need Your healing touch upon their lives.

You also know what they have gone through and how hurting the pains are. Some of them had their emotions bruised and battered terribly. Others have nagging pains that have refused to go away.

Dear Powerful Healer, bind up their wounds, heal their hearts and every brokenness within. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for When There is No One to Confide in.

Isaiah 30:18: So the LORD must wait for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.

Dear Friendly Jesus, You are a friend to the meek and lowly. You know all the abused persons who have no one they can confide in or share their problems with.

Lord, some of them are confused because they think no one would understand the extent of the searing emotional wound or the deep anguish inside.

Oh Lord, we ask that You be their friend and comforter. Heal every brokenness and the anguish inside. Amen.

  1. Prayer for Emotional Healing & Strength.

Psalm 59:16: But I will sing of your strength, in the morning I will sing of your love; for you are my fortress, my refuge in times of trouble.

Heavenly Father, we know that both the hearts of those abused might be feeling shattered at this moment and they may not know what to do.

It is possible too that there is no strength or will left to fight or seek a way out, but we ask that You strengthen them and help them realize that they are not utter failures.

Lord, You promised to give strength to the weary and hope to the distressed and it is evident that many victims of emotional abuse feel both weak and are in deep distress.

So we ask that You help and strengthen them. We also pray that You show them Your great goodness and abundant grace to come out of this life challenge victorious. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for the Grace to Wait Patiently to Recovery Fully.

Romans 15:13: May God, the source of hope, fill you with all joy and peace by means of your faith in him, so that your hope will continue to grow by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Dear Lord, please give the victims of emotional abuse the grace to wait patiently on You; to abide and rest in Your love while waiting for the manifestation of their healing and full recovery from the trauma of emotional abuse.

You promised in Your Word to heal the broken-hearted and restore those who are hurting. Heal their shattered hearts we pray and restore the joy of salvation to them. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for God’s Care and Love.

Ephesians 3:18-19: And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is.

May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Precious Lord, flood every corner of the being of the victims of emotional abuse with Your soothing balm and love. Lord, root out the negative emotions bubbling inside of them.

Fill the void in their souls with Your love and peace, hope, and Your gracious presence. Jesus, You’re the good shepherd, please take care of them like the Good Shepherd that You are. Amen.

  1. Prayer for the Healing of Painful Memories.

Psalm 23:3: He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Dear Loving God, we ask for healing for as many victims of emotional abuse as possible who have painful memories despite having tried very hard to forget them.

Dear Jesus, heal them from the persistent haunting memories and thoughts. Take away all the hurt, anger, bitterness, resentment, and hatred in their hearts, in Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer to Help Victims forgive Those Who Abused Them.

Colossians 3:13: Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.

Gracious and Ever-Forgiving God, please help all those who have suffered emotional abuse to forgive those who hurt, betrayed, and abused them. Heal them of all the negative emotions that well up inside of them.

Erase the painful memories of the past and help them focus on Jesus, as well as the beautiful and wonderful things that You have in store for them both here and in eternity.

Lord, take away the pain and bitter feelings of anger and betrayal in their hearts.

Teach them how to truly forgive and love the same way that Jesus loves and forgives us in spite of our shortcomings. Do these and much more for them, in Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for Supernatural Healing of the Emotional Wounds.

Mark 5:34: And he said to her, Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.

Precious Lord Our Healer, thank You because You can heal the most severely broken heart. You are the All-knowing God who knows the depth of the pain these victims feel.

Examine their inner being and soothe every unresolved pain and unforgiveness. Touch them with  Your love, and let the healing process that only You can accomplish begin now.

Set them free from the bondage of emotional trauma, flood their hearts with peace, and make them whole again. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for Protection & Freedom from Emotionally Abusive Spouses.

2 Thessalonians 3:3: But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for being our protector, comforter, hope, and our ever-present help in the time of need.

Many are deeply distressed and in pain because of the ill-treatment from their spouses. Gracious Father, nothing is hidden from You, so You see the emotional abuse that many receive daily.

We know that this is not Your will for them; some of them have no one to turn to for help, that is the reason we ask for Your strength and courage for these ones.

Dear Lord, please protect them and everyone around them who is also affected. Place a hedge of protection around them. And give them the wisdom to do the right thing in order to be free. Amen.

  1. Prayer of Support & Comfort for All Who Are Emotionally Abused. 

Job 5:11: The lowly he sets on high, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.

Mighty and Powerful God, we bring the innumerable men and women, and boys and girls, who have suffered or are still suffering emotional abuse. We pray for Your healing touch upon their lives.

Dear Lord, we ask that You meet every one of them at the point of their emotional needs. Help them to find strength, support, comfort, and hope in Precious and Loving Jesus.

Refresh as many of them that are weary; strengthen those who are weak, heal those of them deeply afflicted emotionally.

Help those of them who are sorrowing inside and in need of comfort, heal those hurting and draw every one of them close to Yourself. In Jesus’s name. Amen.

  1. Prayer for All Those Who Abuse Others Emotionally.

2 Chronicles 30:9b: For the Lord, your God is gracious and compassionate. He will not turn his face from you if you return to him.

Gracious Father, thank You because You can forgive almost anyone who turns to You in repentance. Lord, we bring those who abuse and mistreat others before You in supplication.

Turn the hearts of these exploiters from the way of evil. Open their eyes to the very truth of their misconduct and fill their hearts with hatred for the damage they have done to those You created.

Bring them to genuine repentance by Your Spirit. Lord, we ask that You draw all those who abuse people to Yourself. Give them the courage to accept and fix their mistakes with sincerity.

Help them to reach out to everyone they have hurt. May the Holy Spirit do a mighty convicting work in their hearts.

Loving God, it is not Your will that any should perish but that all should come to repentance, we, therefore, ask that You help them turn new leaves and become better persons. Amen.

  1. Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Answer to these Prayers for the Emotionally Abused.

Corinthians 4:15-16: All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

  Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 

Gracious and Loving God, thank You because Your Word tells us in Philippians 4:6 that, You said that we should be careful for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving we should make our requests known to You.

We have presented our supplications on behalf of those who are abused emotionally (even those who have abused them).

Dear Lord, we believe in our hearts that these prayers have been answered expressly because You asked us to pray for one another.

You also told us not to have doubts in our hearts when we pray, so dear Lord, we say thank You because we believe strongly that You have indeed answered these prayers. In Jesus Gracious Name. Amen.

Conclusion

It is not God’s will for any of us to suffer emotional abuse nor to live in emotional turmoil.

Hence, we urge you to trust the Father of mercies and of all comfort to bring a performance of His Word concerning your life and your overall happiness.

We pray that you will receive compassion and healing for all the injustice, humiliation, and pain that you have suffered.
