The news is awash with all manner of stories that confirm beyond a reasonable doubt that the marriage institution is under severe attack. Marriage is important to God’s heart and He wants you to be happy.

But the devil is constantly looking for ways to frustrate God’s purpose in your marriage. So, what can you do about it? Well, scripture says that if you resist the devil, he will flee away from you (James 4:7).

So, when the devil tries to interfere with your marriage, take the bull by the horns and put his attempts to a stop.

Here are the Top 9 Powerful Prayers That Will Change Your Marriage.

  1. Pray for a Closer Walk with God.

Father in heaven, you told us in Mathew 6:33 to seek your kingdom first and everything else we need will be added.

As my spouse and I continue with life, it is easy to drift away from the most important relationship in our life – you.

Father, forgive us for the times we have done that. And help us from today to always put you first in our marriage and also in our personal lives.

Reveal to us if there are any areas that we need to improve and help us to always put you first in everything we do.

And as we put you first in our marriage, I believe that we will enjoy peace and happiness together. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Thanksgiving for your Spouse.

Dear Lord Jesus, you taught us the power of thanksgiving when you healed the lepers that returned with a grateful heart after you had sent them to be cleansed. Help my spouse and I to also put on a heart of gratitude.

There are many things that may not be right in my marriage. There are many things that my spouse does that I may not like. But the flip side is that there are a lot more things that are right.

Thank you for allowing me to be married to a wonderful person. I want to thank you for the love between us. Thank you for the many times they have demonstrated love, care, and affection.

Thank you for the blessing of marriage. And from today henceforth, please incline my heart towards thanksgiving as opposed to complaining.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

  1. Pray for a Forgiving Heart.

Heavenly Father, I pray that you will help me to have a forgiving heart. There are many times in my marriage when I have felt wronged by my spouse and every fiber in my being craved for some form of revenge.

But I know that is not the Christian thing to do and besides, that would only be throwing gasoline on the fire. If my marriage is going to work, then I need to be more forgiving. Help me, Lord Jesus.

You were able to forgive people who wronged you even though you had done nothing wrong. Even when the centurions were crucifying you, you still forgave them. I pray that you are going to give me that kind of heart.

That I may be willing to forgive even when I have been wronged.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

  1. Pray for your Mind.

Lord Jesus, I thank you because my mind is blessed. I take authority against any thought that might be exalting itself against God’s wisdom in my marriage. Cast down every imagination that is ungodly.

I declare that my thoughts are consistent with your word and I refuse to take any negative thoughts concerning my marriage. I block my mind from the interference of the devil and I bind every seed that is satanic.

Such seeds will not grow in my mind. Like you tell me in the Book of Philippians 4:8, I will only allow my mind to meditate on thoughts that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and praiseworthy.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

  1. Pray against the Wiles of the Enemy.

Father in heaven, I take a stand against every wile of the enemy against my marriage. Satan, I command you to let go of my marriage, my spouse, and my family.

I stand on the word of God in Mathew 18:18 which tells me that whatever I disallow on earth will be disallowed in heaven and whatever I allow on earth will be allowed in heaven.

I disallow your influence in this marriage. Disallow your trickery and devices in this marriage. I take authority against your schemes and devices and declare that none of them shall see the light of day.

The word of God says that no weapon that is fashioned against me shall prosper. I declare and decree that none of the weapons that Satan is fashioning against my marriage shall prosper.

Every attempt the devil makes to destroy my marriage will not only backfire but my marriage will continue to grow stronger by the day.

In Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.

  1. Pray against Destructive Emotions.

Father in heaven, I humble myself in your presence asking for forgiveness for the short temper I have. I know it is not your will for me to go off at the slightest provocation.

I ask for your help in harnessing my emotions. Realize just how much trouble I have gotten into because of these destructive emotions. I realize how I have made things worse because I couldn’t control my temper.

From today, I choose to harness my emotions with your help. Help me not to speak or act in anger. Help me to be objective in everything instead of making rash emotional decisions.

Deliver me from every destructive emotion that might be ruining my marriage. And I pray for my spouse too. May you also help them to harness their emotions.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

  1. Pray for Unity.

Father in heaven, I thank you for giving me a good marriage. I am cognizant of the attempts of the enemy to scuttle our unity.

When the people of old got united at the tower of Babel, you noted that no one could be able to stop anything they purposed to do because they were one. I pray for that kind of unity in my family.

The devil continually tries to throw apples of discord in our conversations but I take authority against that now in Jesus’ name. I pray that you are going to unite us and make us one in purpose.

Even in times when we have different opinions on issues that affect us, may our differences in opinion not disunite us.

I believe it is done because I ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. Pray for Restoration of the First Love.

Father in heaven, I come to you asking for help for my marriage.

We have lost the spark that we once had and it is hard to place a finger on what we are doing wrong. So, I commit my marriage to you and ask for your help.

The Psalmist says that you are an ever-present help in the time of need. Lord Jesus, may you be my help in this time of need. Help us to rekindle our love for each other.

Help us to desire each other as intimately as we once did. To get back to the first love we had when we met.

Thank you, Lord Jesus, Amen.

  1. Pray for your Tongue.

Heavenly Father, I repent for any idle word that I might have spoken against my marriage and against my spouse.

I repent for agreeing with other people that might have spoken ill things about my marriage and my spouse.

And I ask that you will help me from today to bridle my tongue. Scripture says that life and death are in the power of the tongue and those who love it shall it the fruits, therefore.

Help me to stop speaking death to my marriage and instead to start speaking life. Anywhere the destroyer has spoken death, I speak life. Where he has spoken defeat, I speak victory.

Anywhere he has spoken struggle I speak prosperity. I re-dedicate my tongue to the truth of God’s word. Holy Spirit, do not allow my tongue to speak what the devil wants.

On the contrary, help me to continually make positive confessions that are in tandem with your will for my marriage.

In Jesus’ name, I pray, Amen.

Conclusion.

As you make these prayers for your marriage, remember to personalize them in order to make them authentic. Additionally, remember to pray in faith.

In the book of Hebrews 4, scripture talks of a group of people who heard the word but it didn’t profit them because it wasn’t mixed with faith.

Faith is often the missing ingredient in most prayers that go unanswered.

So make sure your faith is in place as you begin approaching the throne of grace and heaven will respond to your prayers to change your marriage. Amen!
