Powerful prayer life is not by the length of time and the gymnastics, it is a spiritual engagement that produces tremendous results.
Prayer is an act of communicating with God. Martin Luther opines that “to be a Christian without prayer is to be alive without breathing.” True prayer, according to Charles Spurgeon, prayer is “neither a mere metal exercise nor a vocal performance.

It is spiritual transaction with the Creator of Heaven and Earth.” God instituted prayer as a means through which man can always reach Him (Jeremiah 29:12). A powerful prayer life is possible by following the steps below:
1. Right Standing with God
The first step to enhancing your prayer life is to have the right standing with God. Once your standing is not right with God, you will either lack the confidence or the will to pray.
A powerful prayer life is impossible for a sinning man. Acts 3:19: “repent, turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, and times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

2. A Consecrated Life
L. Lowery mentioned that “ holiness is simply the response of a loving heart to the grace and love that God has shown to us in Christ “. When you pray, you usher your soul and spirit into the holies of holies of God which is a sacred place where only a consecrated soul can enter.
You must live daily with the consciousness that you belong to God. “Since we have these promises, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates us” (2 Corinthians 7:1). Being deliberate about this keeps the fire of your prayer alter burning.
3. You Need the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is the presence of God that enables us to live the Christian life in its fullness (Romans 8: 26-27). Michele Bechmam says “the Holy Spirit is our teacher. In prayer, he opens up Scripture and makes it come alive to us.” He enables us in the place of prayer both to pray and to stay praying.
Sometimes, we lack the motivation or the willingness to pray but when the Holy Spirit comes upon us, prayer becomes our lifestyle. You need to consciously ask the Holy Spirit to enhance your prayer life.
4. Specific Time Daily
We discover from the life of Jesus that having a specific prayer time in the day is a powerful prayer strategy (Mark 1:35-37). Charles Stanley observed: “Spending time alone with God [at a specific time of the day] injects into our bodies energy, power, and strength… it transforms our character and increases our devotion.”
This is called quiet time. Paul Washer said: “one of the greatest attacks of the enemy is to make you busy, hurried and distracted, so that there is no room for prayer.” You should have a time separated for being alone with God.
5. Be Disciplined and Consistent
” I pray to be like the ocean, with soft currents, maybe waves at times. more and more, i want the consistency rather than the highs and the lows ” Drew Barrymore.
You cannot have a powerful prayer life without discipline and consistency. You have to be disciplined and consistent in prayer.
Discipline is the resolution to keep to your vows and commitment, while consistency is the decision to keep doing that daily. These will not just happen, you need to be deliberate about this (1 Chronicles 16:11). Discipline and consistency is a culture we must cultivate.
6. Pray with the Word
Praying with the word of God is important, if you want result. When you understand and correctly apply the word of God, you become established in the place of prayer. The word of God gives you confidence, keeps you focus and enhance your victory in prayer Hebrews 4:12.

7. Pray in Tongues
Praying in tongue is a powerful strategy and a potent weapon for praying. For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.1 Corinthians 14:2.
You may not understand the syntax of this spiritual language, but you are simply releasing yourself to the Holy Spirit to take charge in the place of prayer. You can go for hours without being bored or tired. Cultivate this habit in the place of prayer and watch the fire of the spirit blaze bright.
8. Pray Meditating
By turning your eyes on God in meditation, your whole soul will be filled with God. Begin all your prayers in the presence of God. Saint Francis de Sales
Prayer is a conversation between God and man. That being the case, you must have moments carved out to hear from God. Prayer becomes interesting and less boring when you talk and you hear from Him.
Meditation in the place of prayer can be done through the study of the word of God, contemplating those words, and paying kin attention to the inner witness of the Holy Spirit.
9. Have a Prayer Journal
Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that reads it. Habakkuk 2:2-3

A faithless prayer is a wasted effort. How do you intend to pray to a God you don’t have faith in? When you pray, pray believing and be rest assured that God will hear you.
